Child Protection
At St Edmund's we maintain a written Parish Child Protection Policy based on the principles set out in the London Diocesan Child Protection Guidelines. In essence it is our policy to nurture, protect and safeguard the welfare of all our members, including our children and young persons, while protecting our adults from false allegations or temptation. In pursuance of this policy we require all adults wishing to work with our children and young persons to complete an appropriate declaration.
Any offer of appointment, whether paid or as a volunteer, shall be conditional, where appropriate, upon a satisfactory check through the Disclosure Service of the Criminal Records Bureau, for which purpose the candidate or volunteer will be required to complete an application form for disclosure at the appropriate level.
We have a Children's Advocate, duly appointed by the Parochial Church Council. This person has a rĂ´le in maintaining a child protection overview of all the children and young persons in the church, ensuring the implementation of the policy and guidelines, liaising with the Vicar, the Diocesan Children's Adviser at London Diocesan House and the Bishop's Adviser for Child Protection in the Willesden Area. The Children's Advocate may also act as an independent adult to whom children may talk if they wish.
